Diabetes & Endocrinology has been an active area of research since 2000, and the team has contributed to over 20 commercial trials as well as many academic (NIHR portfolio registered) studies. In addition staff members are active in developing academic studies and have published a number of research papers and reports in recent years. The department contributes to some of the work of the Born in Bradford project, particularly in relation to aspects of diabetes and metabolism in pregnancy.

There are strong links to a number of other specialties within the local clinical service – notably including vascular, ophthalmology, renal, liver and obstetrics. We have also developed collaborations with academic researchers (both clinical and scientific) in Leeds, Bradford and Hull.

In addition there are ongoing developments to link diabetes research in Bradford across primary and secondary care, potentially enabling more practitioners and patients to become involved in research.

The clinical Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology has an established research ethos, and many members of the multidisciplinary team are involved in our research activities; contributors include nurses, podiatrists, psychologists and dietitians.
