Research is an important part of the work that we perform in the Bradford Renal Unit. Our focus is on clinical research, looking at treatment interventions that may improve the quality, safety and experience of care we provide for our patients. We have established a portfolio of local, regional and national projects, and are well supported through successful funding applications to the West Yorkshire CLRN and the Bradford Institute for Health Research.

The renal research team is based on the renal unit at St Luke’s hospital where we have our main haemodialysis unit and run clinics for many of our renal patients. Inpatient care is provided at Bradford Royal Infirmary, where there is also a combined peritoneal dialysis unit and acute haemodialysis facility. We have a satellite haemodialysis unit in Skipton. Our research activity covers all these sites.

The research team has a broad membership but is currently led by charge Nurse Tufail Anwar and our five consultant Nephrologists Dr John Stoves, Dr Tarun Bansal, Dr Robin Jeffrey, Dr Habib Akbani, Dr Russell Roberts and associate specialist in renal medicine Dr Ramla Mumtaz.
