ORCID: 0000-0002-2588-0871

Wendy Andrusjak joined the Academic Unit for Ageing and Stroke Research as a Researcher in February 2021.  Wendy is currently working on the HomeHealth trial, which is a randomised controlled trial of a new service to support people aged 65 years and older who are beginning to find it difficult to do the things they like to do themselves.  Wendy’s research interests include frailty, sensory impairments, mental health, care homes, dementia and epilepsy.

Wendy graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc in Psychology and is close to completing her PhD on ‘Identifying and Managing Hearing and Vision Loss in Older People Residing in Care Home’.  The PhD includes a scoping review of the evidence, a national survey of current best practice, interviews with staff residents and family members exploring the experience of ear and eye care and the collaborative engagement of stakeholders to identify possible interventions.  She has currently published two papers from her project, has disseminated her findings at a number of conferences and is collaboratively working with academics to further the research in this area.

Previously, Wendy worked as a Portfolio Delivery Support Officer for the Clinical Research Network helping deliver a portfolio of studies across Yorkshire and Humber.  The job entailed working with researchers to increase their recruitment potential, level of engagement, feasibility and dissemination of their research projects.  She also became involved with the Enabling Research in Care Homes network for Yorkshire, helping care homes make the most of research.  During her PhD she was also working part-time with Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber Trust as a Clinical Studies Officer.  Wendy recruited to a number of mental health focussed studies and coordinated various aspects of the research process.
