The focus of the ASR is applied health research, particularly in the development and evaluation of complex interventions. Our research team are expertise in conducting randomized controlled trials with embedded process and economic evaluations. This includes leading two of the largest recruiting stroke rehabilitation trials in the UK. Our research studies also utilises mixed-methods, including qualitative and quantitative data collection, longitudinal cohorts, data linkage and evidence synthesis. Our research is supported by strong patient groups and clinical colleagues.
We are the lead for five Cochrane Reviews. We have also authored numerous other high quality quantitative and qualitative systematic reviews, and our reviews have influenced national and international policy and clinical guidelines.
As one of the most successful applied health research centres in the UK, the ASR has current income over £11.5M, including host of two NIHR Programme Grants and three NIHR Health Technology Grants, as well as being is a major partner in the Yorkshire and Humber Applied Research Collaborations.
Our programme of applied health research focuses on the following three domains: frailty and elderly care, stroke rehabilitation and care homes.
